Explanation of Credit Card Convenience Fee

Hidalgo County is prohibited by law from paying the credit card processing fees incurred when a taxpayer chooses to pay his or her taxes by credit card. In order to provide this convenience, Hidalgo County has contracted with a third party to provide computer programming, system integration, and Internet hosting services. In turn, our vendor has to pay the "credit card processing agencies" a percentage fee for each transaction. The minimum fee is $2.50 per $100.

The convenience fee appears as a separate transaction on your credit card bill.
