Newcomers to Fort Bend County from out of the state need to register their motor vehicles and receive new license plates from the County Courthouse in Richmond or one of the branch offices located in Missouri City, Sugar Land, or Needville. The automobile department has extended hours on Mondays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Richmond, Sugar Land, and Missouri City; Tuesday – Friday hours are 8:00 to 4:30.  The Needville office is open 8:00 am to 4:30 daily.

VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION/EMISSIONS INSPECTION REPORT:
Before a vehicle can be registered in Texas, it must pass a safety inspection/emissions inspection at a service station or a repair shop displaying a sign indicating it is an official inspection station. The most current registration information on the vehicle and its certificate of title must also be presented. Proof of liability insurance must be shown at the time of safety inspection and registration.

We accept payment by cash or check in all of our offices. An out-of-state check can be accepted with a Texas driver's license or a local check with an out-of-state driver's license or the debit/credit cards listed below:
